ACIC-SGTU ORGANIZED 3 DAY CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAM ON “INCENSE STICK MANUFACTURING”

ACIC-SGTU conducted a 3-day capacity-building program on “Incense stick manufacturing” from the 19th to the 21st April. The capacity-building program is a hands-on learning session for interested individuals to gain the required skills to start one’s venture and become self-empowered.  Trained unskilled workers so that they equip the necessary tools to earn their livelihood and become self-empowered. This session of capacity-building trained 25 like-minded women from the Dhankot and Sultanpur area, who are keen on learning this skill set and being self-empowered. This session saw the usage of waste items like mustard, flowers, etc, and converting them into incense sticks to reduce wastage and add economic value to the lives of the rural people of the community.

On the first day, women have introduced to the different ingredients used in making incense sticks, such as bamboo sticks, charcoal powder, and aromatic substances like essential oils, resins, or herbs. They learn about the different types of incense sticks and the specific characteristics of each type. For example, some incense sticks may be designed to promote relaxation and calmness, while others may be intended to uplift and energize.

During the second day, women learn about the actual process of making incense sticks, including how to prepare the ingredients, how to mix and knead the dough, and how to roll the sticks. They also learn about the importance of quality control, such as how to identify and discard any sticks that are misshapen or have uneven burn rates.

Finally, on the last day, women learn about the process of scenting the incense sticks. This involves applying the desired scent or fragrance to the sticks using a variety of methods, such as spraying or dipping. Overall, learning about the process of making and scenting incense sticks can be a valuable experience that allows women to explore their creativity and gain new skills

Upon completion of the training period, ACIC will support these community people by encouraging them, providing accessibility to the market, and providing raw materials.
