ACIC-SGTU ORGANIZED AN EXPERT TALK SESSION


On 26th April 2023, ACIC-SGTU in collaboration with the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, SGT University conducted an expert talk session on “Aspects of Social Entrepreneurship”. Social entrepreneurship is a form of entrepreneurship that focuses on solving social problems while also generating revenue. Unlike traditional entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship prioritizes social and environmental impact over profit-making. By focusing on social and environmental impact, innovation, sustainability, empowerment, and collaboration, social entrepreneurs are creating new models for business that prioritize people and the planet alongside profit.   

The subject matter expert Sudhakar Paul who is an entrepreneur himself, explains that social entrepreneurship's main objective is to have a positive impact rather than focusing solely on profit-making aligns with the core values of social entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurs prioritize social and environmental impact, while also pursuing financial sustainability. They aim to create solutions that address pressing social problems while also generating revenue to support their business ventures.

Sudhakar Paul's reference to Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus and Narayana Hospitals highlights the important contributions made by social entrepreneurs in addressing social challenges. Muhammad Yunus, for example, is known for his pioneering work in microfinance, which provides small loans to low-income individuals to help them start businesses and improve their livelihoods. Narayana Hospitals is a healthcare provider that focuses on providing high-quality and affordable healthcare to underserved communities.

The audience interacted and asked about the various challenges, furthermore, the session concluded with the remark charity is money lost however social entrepreneurship is money transforming the lives of the community.

Overall, Sudhakar Paul's remarks underscore the importance of social entrepreneurship in addressing social and environmental challenges. Social entrepreneurship can create a lasting positive impact while also generating sustainable revenue to support its mission.
